NHS Lothian Biorepository

NHS Lothian Biorepository

Also known as The Lothian Bioresource/Tissue Governance. Since its establishment in 2010, our repository has been a cornerstone in supporting human tissue research while strictly adhering to regulatory standards.

Operated under Research Tissue Bank approval (Ref: 20/ES/0061) by the Research Ethics Committee (REC), we are authorized to collect, store, distribute, and utilize tissue samples and associated data for research within defined guidelines. This authorization enables a wide range of academic and commercial research initiatives while ensuring ethical compliance.

As part of the national NRS Biorepository network established through collaboration between the Chief Scientist Office (CSO), NHS Research Scotland (NRS), and other health boards in Scotland, we create efficient access to tissue catering to the needs of the research community.

Our management team is readily available for consultation and support for those seeking to utilize patient samples for research from NHS Lothian.
